The Cheviot Hills, from which this breed of sheep gets its name, form the border line between England and Scotland. The Cheviot Sheep Society was formed in 1890 and is one of the oldest sheep societies in existence.

At Lockerbie Mart on Monday 14th March 2011 a magnificent show of 540 Cheviot hoggs were forward for the Show and Sale on behalf of the Hill Cheviot Sheep Society and all consignors were rewarded with a record breaking trade with the Show hoggs averaging 221p/kg.
The Judge, Mr Bill McKinnon of Scotbeef Ltd, Bridge of Allan awarded the Championship to Andrew Reid, Glendearg with 40kg selling at 245p/kg or £98 to Mr C Anderson, for West Scottish Lamb, Carlisle. Reserve came from Messrs Cartner, Blackwood Rigg with 41kg, £91 (222p/kg) to Scotbeef Ltd, Bridge of Allan
